Meet John – Founder of CBL Training and Consulting
Experience. Leadership. Dedication.
John established the company in 2004 with a commitment to delivering top-tier training in bio-psychology related topics, communication, crisis intervention, safety, and personal development.
As a sergeant in a major California law enforcement agency, John led a crisis intervention training unit and holds an Advanced Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. His law enforcement experience spans undercover street patrol, auto theft and drug investigations, general crimes, and serving as a police academy instructor in criminal law, impaired driving, and physical training. Additionally, John was a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and instructor, homicide investigator, crime scene investigator (CSI), and TSA Behavioral Detection specialist, among other advanced certifications.
Prior to his law enforcement career, John worked as an Outdoor Adventure Education Supervisor for at-risk youth with the Tulare County Office of Education and as a Child Care Worker in a live-in substance abuse treatment facility. He also served as a US Forest Service Wildland Firefighter in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
John is an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, having served as a non-commissioned officer (NCO) in the 75th Ranger Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, and as an augmented member of Joint Task Force – Full Accounting (JTF-FA) in Vietnam. He currently serves as a senior NCO (E-8/Master Sergeant) in the California Military Department and is a Senior Military Emergency Management Specialist.
With thousands of hours of instructional experience, John is a POST-certified academy instructor, scenario coordinator, and and Institute for Criminal Investigations and Instructor Development Institute Level II instructor. He has trained a diverse range of participants from government organizations, private entities, and individual citizens across domestic and international platforms and all levels of government.
John’s experiences include surviving a deadly police combat shooting, witnessing the loss of a fellow officer, and sustaining gunshot wounds in the line of duty. These experiences drive his deep commitment to employee and public safety and deeply understands the effects of PTSD.
Academically, John graduated Summa Cum Laude (4.0 GPA) from Columbia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in General Psychology, focusing on tactical bio-psychology, resilience, and outdoor adventure.
Outside of his professional life, John has been happily married since 1996, is a devoted father, an outdoor enthusiast and adventurer, an ultramarathon runner (100 miles), Ironman triathlete (140.6 miles), and holds United States Parachute Association "A" and "B" freefall and Round Canopy Parachute Associate parachute wings and licenses.
